Overcoming Resistance to Change Summary of planning

Closing Projects

Once a plan has been achieved, the project can be closed.

At this point is often worth carrying out an evaluation of the plan, concentrating on:

  • The quality and consistency of delivery achieved
  • The volumes achieved
  • The length of time it too to achieve the plan
  • The real cost of carrying out the plan against the planned costs

These points should be considered in the light of internal and external influences on the plan.

By monitoring these points you may be able to learn a number of lessons which can be fed back into future planning.

Success

Where the plan has been successfully executed, this is a good time to formally close the project with a ceremony, whether this is a meal or a party, or a formal presentation of awards/rewards. Not only does this formally close the plan in peoples minds, it allows them to feel part of a success. Often the broad success of a plan can be lost in a volume of tiny adjustments. This can leave highly effective people unhappy and dissatisfied following a success.
