The Profession

Before the advent of photography, the rendering of the physical world through drawing and painting on various surfaces, and sculpting on wood and stone, was in the hands of artists and artisans. The invention of the camera in the last century changed all that and gave birth to a new way of perceiving the world and its accompanying aesthetics.

The camera now makes it possible to freeze the actual image. Photography is a unique and creative medium of self-expression. It is a means of expressing the nuances of history through the eye of the camera. Photography, which is an art in itself, has a history of over 150 years. It is an artistic means, the camera replacing the pen or the paintbrush.

With the explosion of the communication network, photography has now become a profession with great commercial value. It has become a good source of income and a means to a comfortable life.

There are now a fair number of well-known women photographers, although very few have reached the top in the field. Women still have a little more difficulty than men gaining entry, especially to press photography.
