Entry
Basic qualifications required for entry into the personnel department of an organization are any of the following: MBA, with a specialization in personnel management. Degree or experience in special work-usually hired to assist managers in their function. Specialization in labor law-normally required for industrial relations.
Career Levels
Division of tasks and titles within the personnel department varies considerably from one organization to the next. Broadly, the approximate structure in large companies would be:
AT HEAD OFFICE
Personnel Director
Accountable to the board. In overall control of all activities concerned with human resources
planning, development and services.
Personnel Managers
Answerable to the personnel director. Each holding charge of a separate functional specialization.
AT REGIONALBRANCH OFFICES AND OTHER UNITS
Manager Recruitment
Releases advertisements; keeps in contact with employment bureau and recruitment agencies.
Manager Training: Plans, organizes and conducts all orientation, training, retraining and refresher courses for every level of staff.
Head Management Development
Handles all activities connected with human resources planning and development.
