Remuneration

Nurses employed by government hospitals receive a monthly salary of between Rs 1,400 and Rs 2,600. Those working for private hospitals or the military receive a slightly higher remuneration. Salary depends on the level of seniority reached.

Private nurses have a fixed daily fee. Midwives receive between Rs 1,000 and 1,500 per month approximately, plus a fixed amount per birth registered.

REWARDS

Like any other class of health workers, nurses make a vital contribution to society. As this profession is seen more as a vocation than a job, its rewards must also be viewed in terms of the sense of fulfillment gained from the work itself sharing for others, helping them get well, sharing the joys and sorrows-and the appreciation of the patients and their families.
