A qualified architect who is registered with the Council of Architecture can practice his profession in any of the following areas:
Government Departments /Public Sector
Central and state public works departments and other public organizations related to housing and construction, undertake enormous amounts of building work each year and as such are most closely in touch with development at the grassroots and macro-level. This sector therefore offers the greatest scope-not only in terms of available positions, but also in the accruing of wide professional experience and personal growth.
Private Architecture Firms
Joining a larger firm to work under the guidance of an established architect is also a good way of gaining experience and fresh insights into the profession.
Teaching Institutions
Most architecture schools prefer faculty members who are practicing architects. This is therefore a part-time option.
Private Practice
Establishing a private practice is difficult and is usually undertaken only after gaining some experience in an organization. However, a break could come through winning a competition and the attendant publicity that goes with it.
FUTURE PROJECTIONS
India's construction industry has just emerged from a period of recession. In the context of the rate and scale of our country's current growth India's building requirements are vast and will continue to remain so, well into the next century.
There is the resultant demand for appropriately trained professionals in the fields of architecture, building engineering, settlement planning and building management who can cope with the challenge of these new requirements of our development process. Whatever the economic scenario
wherever people live there is always the need for shelter and hence always the need for architects.
