A liking for people of all ages; a friendly, confident manner, tact; courtesy; an attractive, well-groomed appearance; good skin; cool, dry hands; good health; the ability to stay on one's feet for long periods; a sense of hygiene and cleanliness; business sense and the ability to express oneself easily. Knowledge of foreign languages can also be an asset.
TRAINING
Beauty and hair care are specialist areas that require not only professional training but a great deal of hands-on practice to gain proficiency. Skills can be acquired either through Beauty and Hair Care apprenticeship at a good salon or by enrolling for a course at a reputed beauty school.
India has a number of good training schools for beauty and hair care. Some of these schools are affiliated to well-known cosmetic manufacturing companies or teaching institutions in India and abroad. Others, through maintaining high standards in their fields have built their own reputations and established branches around the country.
Eligibility
There is no specific entry qualification required except for an interest and inclination in the field.
Academic Programme
Varies with the institution. The average syllabus includes theory-anatomy, physiology, diets, salesmanship, and salon organization-and practical work-giving facials, different types of massages, make-up, sometimes-electrical treatments etc. It is useful to take both beauty care and hairdressing training, as it widens the choice of jobs later.
