TRAINING

While professional training is essential for all technical jobs in radio and television, production skills can be gained through hands-on experience. Formal training in this area could, however help to discipline and sharpen inherent skills and thus prove beneficial in the long run.

Training Institutions

Various institutions around the country offer courses in different aspects of television technology and production. Some of these institutions also offer specialized courses in radio journalism and production. These can be:

AUTONOMOUS INSTITUTES

Set up by the Government, like the Film and Television Institute of India (FTI), or university
departments that include TV and radio journalism in their syllabi.

POLYTECHNICS (ITIS)

Which offer TV and video production and technology and communications engineering and
presentation courses.

Eligibility

Eligibility for application varies with the course and institution selected. In general, undergraduate courses require a minimum pass in the 10+2 examination; while a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline is necessary for admittance to post-graduate courses.

Duration training

period of study varies with courses and institutions, ranging between one and four years.

Academic Programme

Programme content varies with institutions. Most are structured on the semester system, and provide a general overview of all theoretical aspects of the medium, with specialization offered at the final semester.

Specializations could include subjects like: broadcasting journalism; camera; sound recording; editing; direction; design; visual communication; graphics; animation.
