Career Prospects

With the present gap between the hotel industry's annual personnel requirement and the number of graduates turned out by existing institutions a job at the end of training is almost a guarantee. Some institutions run placement schemes for the benefit of their students. Those joining apprenticeship/training schemes are usually absorbed by the hotel or chain imparting training and are often under contract to serve the organization for a stipulated period after training is completed. Employment can be in any department of specialization in:

· Any private or public sector hotel or chain of hotels
· Tourist hostel
· Guesthouse
· Forest lodge
· The railways
· A shipping company

Self-employment is also an option, but this involves considerable capital investment and a long gestation period as well as surmounting a great many problems-not least of which is the enormous competition. On the other hand, hotels are a very profitable business.
