Essential to the stability and well being of any country is a defense force of discipline, strength and integrity. The Indian defense services have long enjoyed a reputation as one of the finest forces in the world. A career in the Armed Forces therefore more so than any other-holds promise of honor, glory, high social standing and a privileged lifestyle.
The three branches of the Armed Forces, the Army, Navy and Air Force, work in coordination to defend the country's sovereignty, and complement each other's work.
THE INDIAN ARMY
Defends the territorial integrity of the country against external and internal threats, and provides
aid to the civil authorities during natural calamities, and in the maintenance of law and order when required.
THE INDIAN NAVY
Responsible for defending the extensive coastline of the country in times of aggression, safeguarding maritime interests such as off shore oil and gas installations, coastal shipping and fishery rights, and protecting vital trade links.
THE INDIAN AIR FORCE
With its forty-five squadron strength, handles the air defense of the country, playing offensive and
defensive roles.
