Design, supervise, install and handle the operation of equipment, plants and works in which
materials undergo chemical and physical changes. This could cover various fields of chemical technology in mineral-based industries, petrochemical plants, synthetic fibres, and even petroleum refining plants.
Necessary Qualifications
A graduate or postgraduate degree (BE or ME) in chemical engineering.
Academic Programme
The foc at the undergraduate level is on industrial chemistry, polymer technology, polymer
processing, polymer testing, polymer synthesis, etc. At the ME level, besides other areas, polymer technology is the new sphere, which is dealt with in detail, to meet the requirements of plastic and rubber industries.
Special emphasis is; however, laid on advanced processing concepts, design developments, computer aided plant design, fabrication technology, and polymerization engineering and research with prototype micro-based control.
Job Opportunities
Chemical engineers have a very wide scope for employment in public and private sector industries. They are needed and gainfully employed in soap, oil, paint, plastics, synthetic fibres, explosives and petrochemical plants. They are also required in chemical plants, petroleum refineries, defense establishments and atomic power plants.
