Career Structure

There are no set norms or system of promotion in advertising. This is an entirely result oriented industry and careers can be built very quickly through hard work and achievement. There is also a high degree of mobility between agencies so getting ahead often requires a shrewd assessment of the right time and place to switch jobs.

ENTRY

Can be through applying directly for a post in the relevant department, provided the applicant has the necessary qualifications. In this case, previous working experience in a related field would be taken into consideration. Usually; however, entry is as a trainee.

Candidates must have the requisite qualifications for the department they wish to join as well as take a written aptitude test and a personal interview related to the nature of the work they will be doing.

Once selected, trainees are required to spend some time in each department to gain an overall experience of agency functioning before they join the one they have chosen. Training periods vary from four to ten months depending on the agency and department.
