PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
A striking appearance; good vital statistics; a minimum height of 5'7'; perfect skin, hair and teeth; grooming, poise, confidence, grace; good health; stamina; patience; agility, a sense of rhythm, balance, timing; self discipline; a flair for dressing; some knowledge of acting and dance; photogenic features; camera and stage presence; a lack of self consciousness and inhibitions; willingness to take orders and cooperate with photographers, directors, choreographers and other experts; great self confidence and astute business sense.
TRAINING
There are no set standards of training in this area, and models are usually expected to learn on the job. A few schools have been established mainly by ex-models in some major cities-although Bombay remains the Mecca.
The great advantage of signing up at these institutions is the fashion show organized at the end of each course that gives new models the chance to display their abilities, and photographers, model coordinators and agencies the opportunity to spot fresh talent.
Training Institutions
Eligibility
No special qualifications are required for entry into this field. Those joining as models need to be young and ready to start between the ages of 16 to 18. It is not necessary to be beautiful, but photogenic and able to project oneself before the camera. However, height is very important- at least 5'7". Poise, good looks and the potential for success as a model are considerations that must be met.
A good portfolio is usually the criteria for selection. More and more television advertisements today require acting talent in addition.
Duration Of Training
Catwalk training involves approximately sixteen sessions of two hours each.

Training Programme
While training is preferred, it is essential only for catwalk modeling. Courses vary-but cover mainly ramp walking; make up; working before cameras and portfolio compilation.
