Successful models find constant work in:
Product advertising, mainly through advertising agencies.
Live fashion shows, for designers, export houses, clothing manufacturers and textile companies. Showroom and garment fairs, with export houses and garment manufacturers. Except for showroom modeling, assignments are essentially worked out on a freelance or contract basis.
It is therefore imperative to present one's portfolio and keep in touch with advertising agencies; photographers; film production companies and fashion coordinators in the field.
Modeling Agencies
Many models find it worth their while to register with one or more of the model coordinating agencies that have opened up in the major cities. These agencies, for a flat fee-starting at Rs 5,000/- or a rate of 30 per cent of the assignment charge-keep records and portfolios of models on their rolls; maintain contact with the hiring agencies and undertake recovery of dues on assignments- generally acting as business agents on behalf of their models.
DIVERSIFICATION
After a successful modeling career, many models branch out by:
· Opening their own schools of modeling
· Setting up model coordinating agencies
· Joining films or television as actors/actresses
FUTURE PROJECTIONS
With the growth of the advertising business and the consumer market, the demand for models to exhibit products of all kinds has increased tremendously. Advertising turnover has increased 36.5 per cent from the previous year and currently stands at Rs 1,600 crores. The increasing demand for professional models can therefore be estimated.
After the success of Indian models in the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants, there is growing interest in Indian models for the international fashion world.
