Eligibility
In general, conditions of eligibility for application to most colleges are as follows:
For graduate degree: 10+2 with physics, chemistry and biology. Knowledge of Sanskrit is essential in institutions with no provision for teaching the language as an optional subject. Candidates seeking admission to the main ayurvedic course should have completed 17 years as of 1 October of the year of application.
Candidates must also be proficient in Hindi or the recognized regional language that is the medium of instruction.
Duration of Training
The training period required for ayurvedic studies varies with the level of instruction:
Ayuruedacharya
Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
Duration: 5 1/2 years, including 6 months' internship.
Ayuruedachaspati, Postgraduate degree in Ayurveda.
Duration: 3 years.
Ayurvedavidyavaridhi, Ph.D. in Ayurveda.
Duration: 3 to 5 years.

Subjects covered in the ayurvedic degree course include:
In the First Year:
Padarthauigyan; Astanga Sangraha; Shavir Rachna Vigyan and Svasthauritta.
Second Year:
Drauayaguna Vigyan; Rasashastra; Vakrita Vigyan.
Third Year:
Agadatantra and Vyavharayurveda Prasutitantra and Striroga; as well as some of the second-year courses.
Fourth Year:
Charaka Samhita; Prasutitantra and Striroga; Kaumarabhritya; Kayachikitsa; Shalakya Tantnra Shalaya Tantra.
Fifth Year:
Charaka Samhita and Kayachikitsa, besides some additional courses.
