Homoeopathy was first developed in Germany in the late l8th century. It took another hundred years of intensive research and. experimentation to evolve the complete and sophisticated form we know today. Homoeopathy takes a holistic approach to therapy, and gives as much weightage to patients' personalities as to their symptoms.
The practice claims to be unique in its facility to strengthen the immune system and eradicate all traces of disease from the body. As its name implies, homoeopathic philosophy is centered in the fundamental law of nature that states: `like cures like. Illness is believed to manifest not only in the body, but the mind and spirit as well.
Diagnosis, therefore, while including modern laboratory methods, requires a detailed history of the patient. Medication, usually administered orally, comprises minute quantities of trace elements derived from natural substances with properties akin to the patient's symptoms and personality type.
Since prescriptions take into consideration both, the personality type as well as the symptoms, they are exclusive to each patient. Homoeopathy is said to be most effective in the treatment of allergic conditions and chronic ailments. It does not, however, deal with emergencies, genetic disorders and
abnormalities.
