Training
A number of Unani-Tibb colleges in India impart training in the Unani system.
Eligibility
Intermediate level, Pre-Tib Course: Candidates with a matriculation of SSLC may apply for admission. Minimum age of applicant for first year should be 15 years, and for the second year it should be 16 years, as of 1 October of the year of admission.
Graduate Level, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery: Candidates who have successfully taken the Intermediate/Senior Secondary or 10+2 examinations in either arts or sciences are eligible to apply for admission. Minimum age of applicant must be 17 years as of 1 October of the year of admission.
Note: At all levels, candidates who are proficient in Arabic or Persian are given preference.
Duration of Training
Training periods vary according to the level of instruction.
PRE-TIB COURSE: One year
The course may continue up to two years in the case of those states where the 10+2 pattern of education has not yet been implemented.
Degree Level, BUMS: Kamil-e-tib-o-Jarahat: Five and a half years, inclusive of six months internship period.
POST GRADUATE COURSES
a) MD (Unani)-Ma.hir-e-tib. 3 years
b) MS (Unani)-Mahir-e- Jarahat. 3 years
POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA
Fazil-e-Tib: 2 years
Note: specializations at this level can be in ENT, DLO (U); Ophthalmology, DO (U), etc.
Academic Programme
Instruction in Unani medicine includes practical as well as theoretical training. Graduate students are required to Usool, e-Ilaj all aspects of the subject, including such topics as Tarikh-e-tibb Sariyat; Hauariyat Keemia, biochemistry; Nabaat-e-Tibb-medical botany; Tasrih, anatomy; Muna-fe-ul-Aza, physiology; Dawasaazi, pharmaceuticals, material medica; Samoomiyaat, toxicology; Amraj Atfad, pediatrics; Amraj Niswan, gynecology; Ain & Uzn, Anaf, Halaq; ophthalmology and ENT; Jarrihat, surgery; and Moalijat-e-Kassosi, physiotherapy. The medium of instruction for all Unani courses is Urdu, supplemented where necessary, with English.

Areas of Specialization
At the postgraduate level, specialization could be in fields such as anatomy, physiology, medicine, surgery, etc.
