Private construction companies also offer employment to trained persons in this field. There also exists ample scope in this area for self-employment. Architects with some experience can set up their own business and choose private contractorship. Consultancy services in other construction disciplines can also be encouraging if one possesses strong business abilities.
FUTURE PROSPECTS
In India, there is an acute shortage of houses. It is estimated that currently, we require twenty-five million additional dwelling units, and every year an additional two million. With increased economic activity and technological advancement, there can only be an acceleration of construction
work in all sectors.
Moreover, only about 30% of villages in India are connected by fair weather roads, which imply that there are also rivers to be bridged, and canals to be built.
With the rapidly growing population and affluence there will continue to be good employment opportunities for all those in this field for many more years to come.
