of Work
THE GOVERNMENT SECTOR
In the government sector, the Indian Forest Service officers play an important role in the supervision and management of forests. Various posts are also available for those who have higher qualifications in forestry and forestry management, in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
PRIVATE COMPANIES
Various timber and plywood companies, wood-based product manufacturing companies, paper
mills, industrial plantations and real estate development companies also provide employment to forestry officials. Moreover, forestry officials work in orchards and energy research institutes dealing with the methods of energy conservation.
NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
Various non-governmental organizations and international organizations provide employment to forestry officials and enthusiasts, in their efforts towards the effective maintenance of the existing
forest resources. Not only do these organizations encourage wasteland development and nursery raising, but the more established ones also evaluate government plans.
RESEARCH
As the growth of population and continuous use of timber and wood-based products is
depleting forest cover in the country, extensive research has become necessary in the area, in order to stop this misuse.
Research is basically of two kinds, technical and socio-economic. In the area of socio-economic forestry, researchers deal with the efficient utilization and allocation of resources, for the rural people who are dependent on forests for their livelihood. The technical aspect basically includes fieldwork and afforestation projects for the maintenance of forest resources.
