Future
Prospects
With the countries abundant forest resources deteriorating under the pressure of population growth, both human and livestock, there has been a growing level of environmental awareness amongst the people. This has created the need for a large number of foresters, economists, social scientists, public administrators and policy makers, who would lead the task of preserving and conserving the nation's forest resources.
Policy instructions, consistent with the National Policy of 1988, have been issued by the government of India for a joint forest management programme and the establishment of Hill Resource Management societies.
With the growing awareness of the importance of forest resources, employment opportunities for foresters and forestry officials have increased both in the government and non-governmental sector. The employment opportunities for teachers and researchers have also increased with the rapidly increasing number of universities offering courses in forestry.
