    Employment as a bank officer would be in:

· Reserve Bank of India
· Any of the Regional Reserve Banks
· State Bank of India or one of its associate banks
· Any nationalized bank
· A private sector bank
· An Indian branch of a foreign bank

PROMOTION 

RESERVE BANK OF INDIA AND REGIONAL RESERVE BANKS, STATEBANK OF INDIA AND ASSOCIATE BANKS, NATIONALISED BANKS:  

Is as mentioned in the section on career levels. Preference is given, in the first five years of service, to officers who have passed the Indian Institute of Bankers Examination. 

FOREIGN BANKS:  

Seniority is not the main consideration, and prospects for promotion depend almost entirely on performance at work. 

RELATED CAREERS 

Business consultancy; financial services. 

FUTURE PROJECTIONS 

At present, growth in public sector banks is somewhat slow, and leaves little scope for horizontal movement. With the new economic liberalization, the focus is now shifting to the, private sector and international banks, which hold great, promise for career aspirants in banking.
