A career in banking offers promise of good remuneration and benefits. Approximate scales in various banks are: 

Probation Officer up to scale VI: Rs 2,100/- up to Rs 4,020/- per month with Rs 120/- increment per annum. 

Scale VII (General Manager): Approximately Rs 7,350/- per month 

Bank officers are also eligible for dearness allowance, house rent allowance; and city compensatory allowance. Salaries are higher in private sector and foreign banks. Most foreign banks offer the junior level executive a starting salary of about Rs one lakh per annum. Remuneration increases with seniority.
