Scales of pay in the managerial levels of jobs in the public sector organizations depend on the grade level of the positions. In most departments the induction level is at the junior or assistant grades. Therefore the pay scales at entry are approximately

Junior or assistant level and equivalent: Rs. 2,000-2,500.
Manager and equivalent: Rs. 2,500-3,000.

In the public sector airlines, entry-level pay scales in the technical areas range between Rs. 2000-3000. Management trainees in the commercial and administrative areas are also graded similarly. However, the total remuneration also includes contributory provident fund, gratuity, medical
facilities and free/concessional air passage. 

A trainee pilot is taken on at monthly pay scales ranging
between Rs. 2500-3200. On confirmation as first officers, the pay scales are around Rs. 7,500. Pilots are also entitled to a range of benefits and allowances in addition to housing, medical and out- station allowances, as well as free/concessional air passages for their immediate family and
dependants. 

Private airlines have been able to attract the best talent by offering substantially higher salaries to all personnel, both ground and flight. The basic starting salary for pilots in private airlines range between Rs. 15,000-20,000 p.m. excluding allowances. 

Airhostesses and flight pursers start on salaries between Rs. 5,000-7,000 p.m. plus benefits in the public sector airlines. The salaries in the private sector could range from Rs. 10,000-15,000 p.m. depending on the airlines. Among other benefits and allowances, cabin crew is also entitled to free/concessional air passage for dependants.
