Prospects
Officers and sailors in the coast guard are offered good and secure jobs, with a number of benefits. Assistant Commandants are promoted to the rank of Deputy Commandants after six years of service.
After two years of service as Deputy Commandants, they are promoted to the rank of Commandants. Commandants, after eight years of service, are promoted as Deputy Inspector Generals, who in turn, are promoted to the rank of Inspector General, after six years of service.
Recruitment in the coast guard is open to all sections of society, in all parts of the country, irrespective of caste, creed or religion. However, there are not many openings for women in this area.
FUTURE PROSPECTS
The coast guard's profession is full of challenges, excitement and adventure. The demand for young, qualified officers in these services is tremendous, and there is a lot of scope for advancement.
